The right PDF size

How do you ensure your PDF is the correct size? And how do you actually check the dimensions of your PDF? It doesn't have to be that difficult; it sounds more complicated than it is. We explain it step by step!

What is a PDF?

We can print virtually any type of document. However, we are biggest fans of PDF files. In other words: Portable Document Format. These documents look the same on every screen, every device, and every printer. And the nice thing about that is that all the information remains the same during printing and therefore will not shift. This way, you always know that you receive exactly what you upload!

The format of a PDF

A PDF is almost always exported from another file type. To ensure that your PDF has the correct format, set the correct document format before exporting. You do this in the program you are working in, such as Word, Canva, InDesign, Illustrator, or Google Docs.

For example, a standard A4 is 210 x 297 mm, A5 is 148 x 210 mm, and A6 is 105 x 148 mm. When you then save or export the document as a PDF, the PDF usually adopts this format.

Check the format

But sometimes, of course, you want to have an existing product printed. And then you might be unsure about the right size. After all, how big is it actually? That is easy to check, too:

  • In Adobe Acrobat: open the PDF, go to File, and then to Properties. You will almost always find the page size there.

  • On a Mac: you can open the PDF in Preview and check the page size via the info window.

But we have also made it easy for you. Our order form can detect the format of your file and automatically indicate which format you can enter.

Margins

Always pay close attention to the document margins before printing. It is important that a document is the correct size. But the margins within the document are also important.

Is your text or image positioned too close to the edge? Then there is a chance that part of it might be cut off. Therefore, always ensure that the correct margins are maintained. We indicate this for every product in the delivery conditions.

In short

To ensure the correct PDF format, first set it correctly in the document format settings, add the appropriate margins, and then export it as a PDF. This way, you can be sure that it not only looks good on your screen but is also printed correctly.
