It probably won’t surprise you to hear that Victoria is a graphic designer by profession. But even with all that creativity in her day job, she still has plenty left over to create fun designs in her free time.
That’s when she leans more into a visual and expressive style, experimenting with colour, oil paint and digital art. And that’s how Very Berry Draws came to life. At first, it was simply a fun name she used to share her artwork on social media. But as she started to find her audience, Very Berry Draws slowly grew into something much bigger.
We had the chance to ask Victoria a few questions about her brand, her stickers and where she finds her inspiration.
How would you describe your illustration style, and where do you get your inspiration from?
I love to describe my style as semi-realism and "colour bending", while my fans and followers often describe it as magical realism, due to my penchant for painting ordinary scenes with vivid colours, high contrast and exaggerated highlights.
My artistic focus is on everyday items and food, as a way to bring some magic to the mundane, and hopefully inspire everyone who sees my art to take a new look at their surroundings and gain a new appreciation for the world around them.
What inspired the designs you turned into stickers?
The majority of my sticker sheets are based on my art collections. It’s a personal ongoing art project in which I revisit the art I’ve created since 2021 and give it new life by compiling it into these new collections. My most popular ones
are the Colour collections - now featuring 15 colours! a nice number of delicious cakes and so on. I keep making these because they allow me to be creative without strictly forcing me to create something new from scratch, and also because it allows me to revisit old art I might not have the best relation with in the past and look at it with new eyes. Plus, they’re simply fun to make!
Of the stickersheets you ordered, do you have a favorite? If so, why?
I think my favourite might be my Fruit sticker sheet! It’s just so vibrant and fun, and every time I see it, it makes me happy. Fruits are my hands down favourite thing to draw and paint. The colours, the different textures, the juiciness and highlights... They’re my comfort object and every time I feel the beginning of an art block I fall back to them and it works like a charm - immediately I feel my mood improve and my creative juices flowing again. If I feel uninspired I know I can start painting or drawing a seasonal fruit, and without fail I’ll feel better and more invigorated in the next 20 minutes.
So when creating this sticker sheet I borrowed from this place of joy and creativity and chose my favourite fruit art! Paired it with a vibrant orange background to make the colours really pop and voila!
What do you enjoy most about seeing your illustrations come to life as physical products?
That’s the absolute best part of my job! I’m currently a primarily digital artist but I miss putting paint to paper sometimes. To see my digital illustrations reimagined as stickers and prints gives me such a hit of dopamine! Not to mention that nothing beats seeing your art on the wall or on the objects you use most often.
How do you usually use your stickers and what do you hope people do with them?
I honestly try to stick them to any surface that will take them! I’m absolutely over the moon with them, and they look so so gorgeous in person that I can’t resist just slapping them whenever I can. Mostly I use them for the objects I handle daily - like my sketchbooks, my water bottles, my ereader case, my iPad and phone case, my luggage, my storage boxes…
But I don’t stop there as I also use them in my journaling and in journal spreads! The colour collections look especially good in a spread - last I did one with the Light blue collection and it ended up looking so gorgeous and fresh!
Is there a particular illustration or sticker you've created that has a special story behind it?
That definitely would be my Cool girl sticker sheet! It’s based on the art I drew on the cover of my first ever Moleskin sketchbook which I got at the beginning of the year. To get a Moleskin was a big deal to me because back when I first got on social media I used to look up to these fantastic artists who’d draw and paint the most amazing art ever and most of them used this type of sketchbook.
I’m fully aware that tools don’t make the artist - in fact I regularly do art with “bad” art supplies like crayons or multicoloured pencils for kids just because they’re fun to use. But something about acquiring this particular sketchbook really moved me because I finally felt like a “professional artist” which is silly considering I’ve been one for years at this point, but nevertheless the feeling stayed!
I wanted to make something special for the cover so I decided I’ll draw on it with acrylic markers instead of opting out for covering it with stickers. And both me and my followers loved the end result so much I simply had to turn it into a sticker sheet asap! I’m definitely super proud of how it looks.
What are you currently working on, or what can people look forward to seeing from you next?
I’m currently working on making autumnal and winter sticker sheet designs! I know it might seem a little bit early but production takes a long time and I want to have them all early enough. I’ve just finished my Halloween and Christmas designs, and I’m on my way to make a Cosy autumn and Animal collections. I'm very excited for these and can’t wait to share what I’ve done!
