Bleed: What is bleed printing?

Bleed printing means printing from edge to edge. We also refer to this as edge-to-edge printing. This option is intended for documents with a full-page design to prevent white borders from appearing around the prints.

Example: with and without bleed printing

Flyers with a full-page design

Bleed printed

These flyers have a design that fills the entire page, so they are printed with bleed.

Pages without printing at the edges

Not bleed printed

These documents do not have a design at the edges of the document, so bleed printing is not necessary for this type of document. The result is the same when not bleed printed.

How are bleed prints made?

To create a bleed print, the file is printed on a sheet that is slightly larger than the desired final size. Then, it is "cleanly cut," causing the design to "bleed off the page," so to speak. You can provide the document with bleed and/or trim marks to ensure a cutting position. If this is not provided in the file, we enlarge the documents by 1%. This is not visible, but it gives us enough space to cleanly trim the bleed.
