Tips for making the best photo

On vacation, during a birthday, or at graduation: photos can evoke many emotions and memories. But how do you make a good photo? That can be very difficult, but we have listed a few simple tips to help you make the best photos!

  1. Use a simple backgroundBy using a simple background, you can point all the attention to the subject of the photo. A busy background will attract a lot of attention, which can cause the viewer to not pay attention to what you intended, which would be a shame.

  2. Get the right exposure
The amount of light, and which side the light comes from, is one of the most important things for making a good photo. For example, the subject of your photo should be clearly visible and not disappear because of the sun or a shadow. Always take your photos in the direction of the light to avoid backlight. A photo with the right exposure automatically looks sharper and more professional.

  1. Pay attention to the surroundingsDo you want to achieve something with your photo? Make sure the surroundings fit this aim or subject. Are you making photos to promote clothing? Then you should not place the person wearing the clothes in a dirty or busy surrounding that is very distracting. Are you photographing an athlete? Then you take the pictures when the person is actually doing their sport. If you take a picture while they are eating a sandwich, the aim of the photo is not as clear.

  1. Composition
Composition means the organization of elements in the photo in a strategy that was decided on in advance. With the right composition, you point the viewer's attention to what is important. For taking photos, you can choose a raster. With such as raster you divide the image into nine areas of equal size. The subject should be placed on one of the lines or at a point where the lines cross, as these points get the most attention. If the picture has one object (for example a person), you can also choose the so-called central composition. The subject is then placed right in the middle of the image.

  1. Edit your photosTo make your photos look more professional, it is a good idea to edit your photos after taking them. You can check the exposure and white balance of the pictures you took. You will see that a photo can become even nicer after taking it. Even photos that already look great, such as those taken in a professional studio, are often still edited later. A photo you took during your vacation can be made even better by making the sea slightly more blue or the grass greener. Examples of programs you can use to edit photos are Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (paid) of GIMP (free).
