What size is an A4?

A4 is the most-used paper size. An A4 sheet has a width of 21 centimeters and a height of 29,7 centimeters. It is the size that you usually open your Microsoft Word or Google Docs files in, and the size that home printers generally use. Keep in mind that depending on your computer settings, you might also be working in the US Letter format, which is 21,59x27,94 cm.

A4 compared to other paper sizes

A4 is the best-known A-size. All paper sizes in the A-series have a length-width ratio of √2:1. In other words: every A-size is half the size of the next larger A-size. For example, an A4 is half the size of an A3. Folding an A3 down the middle gives you an A4. Similarly, two sheets of A5 paper have the same size as one A4.

Paper types for A4

A4 is a popular size for printing text documents such as books, readers, sales reports, or dissertations. For such products, it is not always necessary to use a firm or luxury paper type. As a result, we often see customers choosing 80, 90, or 100 grams paper for such prints.

Ecological and Luxury A4 paper types

Our 80 grams paper is the most sustainable choice. We use Paperwise paper, which is made from agricultural waste. Our 90 grams Roman paper is a warm, white paper type that is very nice to read from. 160 grams Extra Firm paper is a great choice for A4 prints that need a more luxurious appearance. As this paper is quite sturdy, it is a great choice for prints that need to last for a while. Of course, we can also print your A4-size prints on heavier paper types. Flyers, posters, certificates, or brochures are some examples of prints on A4 that might require a sturdier or fancier paper type.

Paper weights for A4 sheets

The weight of paper is expressed in grams per square meter. People often speak of, for example, "100 grams paper". The more grams, the thicker and heavier the paper. A0 size is equal to one square meter. Knowing this, as well as how the sizes in the A-series relate to each other (A4 is 1/16th of an A0), we can easily calculate the weight of one A4 sheet.
